As I write this post it is with tears in my eyes. It is not something I thought I would be writing at this stage of life about one of my beloved Mama Creatives presenters, and dear friend. Unfortunately it is with a heavy heart that our darling Sami, creative mama extraordinaire has left this world. Above is a recent photo of Sami, taken by Mariam from Photographed with Love, who joined us at our Creative Mama Workshop in November. You can see more photos of Sami from this event on our gallery page.

Sami was multi-talented and excelled in many creative areas; film making, music, art, performing, academia. Sami actually was a special Mama Creatives presenter back when we were just starting out and were still called Creative Mama Group, because we were literally just a small group who would gather once a month to meet and listen to our featured mama.

Sami shared her exceptional life story back in July 2014, and she titled it ‘Music, Movies, Mayhem & Motherhood’.

She brought in a guitar and had us all in fits of laughter as we made up our own songs of motherhood. You can see all the photos in an album on our private Mama Creatives Facebook community page.

Sami was born in France, as her mother was French.  Along with her other admirable accomplishments she was also bilingual. As a film maker Sami produced an impressive body of work. Her final film was a feature length semi auto-biographical story called The Last Goodbye, which she shot in Paris.

Sami was an award winning director, and Butterfly Man shows her exceptional talent and sensibility for this art form.

I first met Sami through a close mutual friend who invited me to see her perform in her duo, Freaks in Love. She was alluring, sexy, captivating. An incredible talent with so much charisma, who could dance and sing and make you feel alive.

If you want to see more of Sami’s amazing and diverse talent watch her showreel.

For those who knew her, and even those who didn’t, it was obvious that her greatest creation were her two sons, Remi and Gabe. She was an incredibly devoted, loving and amazing mother who encouraged them in their own creative pursuits. This short video, Manhood, beautifully conveys her love.

SAMI’S BOYS: Unfortunately nothing will bring back our beautiful Sami, but one way to show our love and support is for her son’s – Remi and Gabe. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to gather funds to assist them in their future lives, schooling and university.

Sami loved the poet and philosopher Rumi. In honour of this beautiful woman, friend, mama, I will remember her in every sun and moon.

Death has nothing to do with going away.

The sun sets

The moon sets

But they are not gone
